Explanation of Responses:
1. The Reporting Person is a co-Trustee of The Estee Lauder 1994 Trust. The
Reporting Person is also a Trustee of The 1995 Estee Lauder LAL Trust
and The Estee Lauder 1995 RSL Trust, each of which is a general partner in
Lauder & Sons L.P. The Reporting Person disclaims beneficial
ownership to the extent he does not have a pecuniary interest in such
securities.
3. The Reporting Person disclaims beneficial ownership of the securities owned
by his wife.
2. On June 2, 1999, the Class A Common Stock of the Issuer split 2-for-1.
Accordingly, the Reporting Person's wife acquired 2,000 additional shares
of Class A Common
Stock.
3. The Reporting Person disclaims beneficial ownership of the securities owned
by his wife.
