dated October 1, 1995
The fourth paragraph on page 4 is amended to clarify certain investment
policies of Bond Portfolio for Endowments, Inc. as follows:
The fund invests primarily in fixed-income securities, including bonds and
debentures. A majority of the fund's assets will be invested in fixed-income
securities rated in the three highest categories (those rated A or above) by
Moody's Investors Service, Inc. or Standard & Poor's Corporation or that are
determined to be of equivalent quality by the fund's investment adviser,
Capital Research and Management Company. In addition, the fund may invest in
securities rated BBB by S&P or Baa by Moody's or in unrated securities of
equivalent quality. Securities rated BBB or Baa may have speculative
characteristics and changes in economic conditions may lead to a weaker
capacity to make principal and interest payments than is the case with higher
rated securities. The fund has no current intention of investing in securities
rated BB or below by S&P and Ba or below by Moody's (commonly known as junk
bonds) or in unrated securities of equivalent quality. The fund may also
invest up to 10% (measured at the time of purchase) of its assets in
obligations of corporations or government entities outside the U.S. and Canada.
All Canadian and other non-U.S. securities purchased by the fund will be U.S.
dollar-denominated and highly liquid and meet the quality standards set forth
above.
The first table on page 9 is amended to reflect the current portfolio
counselors of Endowments, Inc. as follows:
