JANUS INTERMEDIATE GOVERNMENT SECURITIES FUND

                     Supplement Dated September 30, 1996 to
                       Prospectus Dated February 18, 1996

Janus  Intermediate  Government  Securities Fund will be closed to new investors
effective  October 10, 1996.  The Trustees have approved the  liquidation of the
Fund in early 1997,  subject to shareholder  approval.  In  anticipation  of the
proposed   liquidation   of  the  Fund,  the  Fund  may  begin  to  shorten  its
average-weighted  maturity described in the prospectus in order to better enable
an orderly liquidation of the Fund's assets.
