By supplement to prospectus (sticker) dated July 1, 1996, Ameritas Variable Life
Insurance Company (AVLIC) amends its prospectus at pages 1, and elsewhere to
disclose that American Mutual Life Insurance Company has changed its name and
organization as of July 1, 1996 as reflected in the prospectus, to Amerus Life
Insurance Company, an Iowa stock company.
AVLIC further amends its prospectus under the heading "Transfers" to add the
following disclosure: The registered representative noted on your application
will have the authority to initiate telephone transfers. If you do not wish your
registered representative to have this authority, you must specify this in the
application.
