SUPPLEMENT TO THE PROSPECTUS OF

ALLSTATE LIFE OF NEW YORK VARIABLE ANNUITY ACCOUNT II (dated April 18, 1995)
On August 24, 1995, the Trustees of the Dean Witter Variable Investment
Series (the "Fund") adopted an amendment to the Declaration of Trust of the
Fund changing the name of the Managed Assets Portfolio of the Fund to the
Strategist Portfolio, and amended certain of the investment policies of that
Portfolio, all to take effect on September 1, 1995. Accordingly, effective
September 1, 1995, all references in the Allstate Life of New York Variable
Annuity Account prospectus and the Allstate Life of New York Variable Annuity
Account II prospectus to "The Managed Assets Portfolio" are hereby changed to
"The Strategist Portfolio." Please consult your fund prospectus and the
accompanying supplement to the Fund's prospectus dated August 24, 1995 for
more detailed information concerning the investment objectives and policies
of the Strategist Portfolio.
