ITEM 1
Foreign utility status is claimed by Tiszai Eromu Rt. ("Tiszai"). Tiszai is
an electricity generation company and is the owner and operator of three power
plants totaling 1,281 MW and a coal mine in Hungary, and has the right to
construct a 150 - 300 MW coal-fired power plant in Hungary. The current power
plants consist of a 250 MW coal-fired plant, a 171 MW coal-fired plant, and a
860 MW gas and oil-fired facility.
Tiszai is a Hungarian company, which is 81% owned by AES Summit Generation
Ltd., a U.K. company. AES Summit Generation Ltd. is directly 100% owned by AES
Electric Ltd., a U.K. company, which is directly 100% owned by The AES
Corporation, a publicly-traded company in the United States. The remaining 29%
of Tiszai is owned by various pension plans of employees of Tiszai.
