As a result of matters discussed in the Form 8-K filed by the Company on August
12, 1998, and decisions to close certain manufacturing facilities and to sell
its carpet subsidiary, Buchanan Industries, Inc., management of the Company
needs additional time to reassess certain of the disclosures that may be
required for its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 27, 1998.

identify report(s).
[X] Yes [ ] No
(3) Is it anticipated that any significant change in results of operations
from the corresponding period for the last fiscal year will be reflected by the
earnings statements to be included in the subject report or portion thereof?
[X] Yes [ ] No
If so: attach an explanation of the anticipated change, both narratively
and quantitatively, and, if appropriate, state the reasons why a reasonable
estimate of the results cannot be made.
The Company has approved a plan to restructure and sell its carpet and yarn
division. Because of that proposed sale and the discontinuance of certain
manufacturing operations in the Fibers division, the Company has not completed
final analysis of the impact on the financial statements and the appropriate
disclosures.
As a result of the restructuring and proposed sale, the Company expects to
take a one time charge, before taxes, in the third quarter of 1998. That charge,
plus increases in costs and declines in sales will result in net income for the
third quarter of 1998 being materially lower than net income for the
corresponding period of 1997.
