	  This Supplement is filed pursuant to Rule 497(d) with regard to
Municipal Investment Trust Fund, Intermediate Term Series-227, Defined
Asset Funds.  The text of the supplement to the Prospectus dated March 10,
1994 is as follows:

In accordance with the Indenture, the Sponsors have directed the Trustee to
delete from the Portfolio the following obligations:

South Carolina Jobs, Economic Development Authority, Economic Development
Revenue Bonds (Interko Inc. Project) (ING Bank-Letter of Credit)

Revenue Bonds (Specialty Electronics Inc. Project) Series 1994 (Nationsbank
of North Carolina-Letter of Credit)

As a result of this substitution, the estimated net annual interest rate
per Unit times $1,000 is $48.12.  The first distribution to be paid on
the 25th day of June, 1994 to Holders of record on the 10th day of June,
1994 will be $4.13 per Unit, with second and following distributions
estimated to be $4.01 per Unit.
