Supplement to Prospectus
The following supersedes information appearing in the Prospectus of Equitable
Life Insurance Company of Iowa Separate Account A dated April 1, 1996.
On May 14, 1996, the Securities and Exchange Commission issued an order
approving the substitution of shares of the Advantage Portfolio of the
Equi-Select Series Trust ("Trust") for shares of the Government Securities
Portfolio of the Trust and the Short-Term Bond Portfolio of the Trust. Since
September 22, 1995 the Government Securities and Short-Term Bond Sub-Accounts
have not been available to receive either allocations of new purchase
payments or transfers of Contract Value.
