The following information supplements and should be read in
conjunction with the section of the Fund's Prospectus entitled "Adviser,
Sub-Advisers and Distributor."
The Fund's Adviser, Davis Selected Advisers, L.P. ("Adviser"), has
assumed responsibility for managing the day-to-day operations for the Fund. The
Board of Directors terminated the Fund's contract with the former sub-adviser
as of October 1, 1998. The management fees paid by the Fund are not effected by
this action.
Jeffrey W. Singer serves as the Fund's portfolio manager. From 1992
until joining the Adviser in September 1998, Mr. Singer was employed by Sanford
C. Bernstein & Co., as a Senior Research Analyst and Principal responsible for
global investment research on particular industries including monitoring
existing holdings and recommending new investments.
