SUPPLEMENT TO THE ANCHOR ADVISOR PROSPECTUS
DATED AUGUST 12, 1996
Delete the second paragraph in the section entitled "Annuity
Options" on page 5 and replace with the following:
You select the date on which annuity payments are to begin, which
must be the first day of a month and must be at least two years
after the date your contract is issued. We call this the Annuity
Date. You may change your Annuity Date at least seven days prior
to the date that your payments are to begin. However, annuity
payments must begin by the later of your 90th birthday or ten years
after the date your contract is issued. If no Annuity Date is
selected, annuity payments will begin on the later of your 90th
birthday or ten years after the date your contract is issued. If
the Annuity Date is past your 85th birthday, it is possible that
the contract would not be treated as an annuity and you may incur
adverse tax consequences.
Insert the following sentence before the first sentence of the
third paragraph in the section entitled "Annuity Options" on page
5:
The Annuitant is the person on whose life annuity payments are
made.
